Knowing and Believing
If you know the truth, you do not need to believe.
If you know the truth, you do not need to believe.
You would never say, “Believe me, salt is salty.”
You know salt is salty because you can taste it. There is no faith required.
We use the word believe when something cannot be completely known or proven to us. We believe someone is honest. We believe a plan will work. We believe tomorrow will be better.
But once something becomes knowledge, belief is no longer necessary.
This is an important distinction in business and in life.
When someone says, “Believe me,” my next question is often:
“Why do I need to believe you? Show me.”
Trust has value. Belief has value. But neither should be confused with fact.
What you believe may be true.
What you know does not require belief.
What you know does not require belief.
