こじんまり — Small Can Be Just Right
The Japanese word kojinmari (こじんまり) describes something small, compact, and comfortably put together. Imagine a little restaurant with a few tables, a welcoming atmosphere, and an owner who remembers your name.
There is something satisfying about a place where everything fits and nothing feels excessive.
In business, we often treat growth as the obvious goal: more customers, more employees, more locations. But size brings responsibilities and complexity. A bigger business does not automatically mean a better business—or a better life.
A small company can serve its customers well, support its employees, and earn a healthy profit. Its owner may choose to improve the business without expanding it.
To me, こじんまり offers a useful reminder: there is value in building something you can understand, care for, and manage well.
Ambition can mean becoming exceptionally good at what you do, even within a small space.
Build a business whose size allows you to deliver the quality you promise.
