Why Do I Talk About Japanese Wisdom?
I am a businessman, not a scholar of Japanese philosophy.

So why do I talk so much about Japanese wisdom?
The reason is very practical.
If you are going to Japan or doing business with Japanese people, I simply want you to know the basics.
There is a Japanese saying:
郷に入っては郷に従え
Gō ni itte wa gō ni shitagae.
Gō ni itte wa gō ni shitagae.
It is similar to the English expression, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.”
I do not want you to become Japanese. I do not expect you to speak perfect Japanese, eat Japanese food every day, or understand every custom.
I just do not want you to isolate yourself when you go to Japan.
Understanding a little about how Japanese people communicate, how they build trust, how they make decisions, and what they consider respectful can make a big difference.
You can still be yourself. In fact, you should be yourself.
But knowing the basics helps you avoid unnecessary misunderstandings and makes it easier to build real relationships.
That is why I write about Japanese wisdom.
My goal is not to make you Japanese. My goal is to help you do better business with Japanese people.
