Do What Others Don’t

 

During Japan’s age of warfare, success often depended on doing what the enemy did not expect.

 

夜討朝駆け (youchi asagake) literally refers to attacking at night and striking again at dawn. Samurai commanders understood that fighting only when the enemy was prepared gave away an important advantage. Surprise, timing, and willingness to act outside the expected pattern could change the outcome of a battle.

 

Today, we are not fighting with swords, but the principle still applies.

 

In business, most people follow similar schedules, pursue the same customers, copy successful competitors, and wait for opportunities to appear. That makes their actions predictable.

 

You do not always need to work harder than everyone else. Sometimes you need to work differently.

 

Look where others are not looking.
Move when others are waiting.
Solve problems others consider too small.
Take opportunities others overlook.

 

Following the crowd may feel safe, but it rarely creates an advantage.

 

Do what others don’t.

 

That is often where opportunity begins.
