A Journey of a Thousand Miles Begins with a Single Step

 

One of the best-known proverbs in Japan is 「千里の道も一歩から」 (Senri no Michi mo Ippo Kara).

 

Its meaning is simple: Every great achievement begins with a single step.

 

Although widely used in Japan today, the proverb originally comes from Chapter 64 of the ancient Chinese classic Tao Te Ching (Dao De Jing) by Lao Tzu, which says, "A journey of a thousand miles begins beneath one's feet." Over the centuries, this wisdom became deeply rooted in Japanese culture and is now commonly expressed as 「千里の道も一歩から」.

 

Whether you're building a business, adopting new technology, improving your health, or learning a new skill, the first step is often the hardest. Many people delay because the journey seems too long or the goal too ambitious.
