In 1921, Shōzaburō Shimano was just 26 years old when he founded Shimano Iron Works in Sakai, Osaka. It was a very small operation, occupying only a rented workshop of about 40 square meters. At the time, Japan was still developing its industrial base, and resources were limited.

 

The company's first product was a bicycle freewheel. Manufacturing precision bicycle parts was not easy in those days, but Shimano focused on quality and continuous improvement. From that small repair and machine shop, the company gradually built a reputation for reliability.

 

More than a century later, SHIMANO products are used by cyclists around the world, from casual riders to Olympic athletes. The company has become a global brand while remaining rooted in the manufacturing culture of Japan.
