Air Force One: A National Investment Beyond Politics

 

The new Air Force One has been revealed, and as expected, some people on the political right will likely praise it while some on the left will criticize it. That is unfortunately the reality of today’s highly divided political environment.

 

As a small business CEO, I sometimes wonder why everything has become so political. It is healthy to debate the cost, design, and management of a major national project. In fact, responsible oversight is necessary. But we should also step back and look at the bigger picture.

 

The United States needed to replace the aging Air Force One fleet. These aircraft are not built for a single president—they are national assets designed to serve the office of the President of the United States for decades. The aircraft introduced today will likely remain in service long after President Trump and today’s political leaders are gone.

 

From a small business perspective, the concept of redundancy is very familiar. We invest in backup servers, redundant systems, and disaster recovery plans. These investments do not generate immediate profits, and hopefully, we never need to use them. However, when a system is mission-critical, having no backup is simply not an option.

 

In business, we make investments in equipment, technology, and infrastructure that may not provide immediate returns but are essential for long-term success. A country must sometimes think the same way. National security, diplomacy, and the ability to represent America on the world stage require long-term planning.

 

Air Force One is not the airplane of a Republican or a Democrat. It is the airplane of the President of the United States, representing the nation and its people around the world.

 

Perhaps we would be better off remembering that some things should belong to the country and its future, not to the politics of the moment.
