When you start a business, you have to believe in yourself. To others, your confidence may seem unrealistic, or even like a lie. You may say, “I will build a successful company,” when you have no customers, no money, and no proof that you can achieve it.

 

But sometimes, that “lie” can become the truth.

 

This is the meaning behind the Japanese proverb 「嘘から出たまこと」 (Uso kara deta makoto) — a statement that begins as something untrue but eventually becomes reality.

 

Entrepreneurs often live by this idea. Every great company started with someone imagining a future that did not yet exist. Before others could believe in that vision, the founder had to believe it first.

 

Of course, dreams alone do not create success. They must be followed by hard work, persistence, learning, and the willingness to overcome failure. But without the initial belief — without the courage to say, “I can do this” — nothing ever begins.

 

After all, you cannot accomplish something that you have never imagined.

 

Perhaps many successful businesses were born from a small “lie” that their founders were determined to turn into the truth.
