PSPINC Turns 39

On July 7, 1987— 39 years ago —Kenichi Uchikura founded PSPINC on Mercer Island, Washington.

PSPINC stands for Pacific Software Publishing, Inc. True to its name, the company originally started as a software publishing business.

Today, the concept of software publishing may sound unfamiliar to many people. Still, in the 1980s, we packaged software much like books or magazines, complete with floppy disks and printed instruction manuals sold on store shelves.

Our very first mission at PSPINC was to localize software developed in the U.S. for the Japanese market, and publish and distribute it in Japanese. At the time, they created most software in English, which presented technical challenges supporting the Japanese language. It required far more than simple translation; it demanded deep technical adaptation for Japanese operating environments, rendering local fonts, and rewriting comprehensive manuals from scratch.

We weren't just a translation agency. We acted as a vital bridge, transforming American technology into a format that Japanese customers could use and benefit from seamlessly. Back in 1987, the Internet was virtually unknown. There weren’t any websites, cloud computing, or smartphones. Even email was a luxury reserved for a select few. Instead, phone calls and fax machines dominated the era.

Over the past 39 years, PSPINC has grown alongside the digital revolution by leveraging its expertise in handling Japanese and English. As the internet age dawned, we expanded our services into web hosting, email systems, and web application development. Today, we’re proud to provide cutting-edge solutions utilizing cloud infrastructure and AI technology.

While technology has evolved, our core mission has remained the same. We help bridge technological and cultural gaps between Japan and the United States to solve our customers' challenges.

From the age of floppy disks to the age of AI, technology has advanced beyond what many could have imagined. Yet technology itself is only a tool. Our mission remains to help our customers succeed and to provide services that create real value.

Starting a company is difficult. Keeping one successful for nearly four decades is even more challenging.

PSPINC has continued to grow and serve customers for 39 years, thanks to the support of our customers, business partners, shareholders, and employees. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has been part of this journey.

Next year, PSPINC will celebrate its 40th anniversary.

To everyone who has supported us over the past 39 years, thank you.
We look forward to continuing to grow alongside our customers while embracing new technologies and new opportunities in the years ahead.
