Sourdough in the Morning

Sourdough in the Morning

This morning, I brought freshly baked sourdough bread to the office.

Nothing fancy. Just a loaf from Panera Bread. I used to hate sourdough. The sour taste didn’t sit right with me before. But now, I see it differently.

It reminds me of Natto from Japan—fermented soybeans.

Even though I was born in Japan, I had never seen natto until about 5th or 6th grade. I’m from Ashiya in the Kansai area, and natto is more of a Kanto food. At first, I hated it—the smell, the sticky texture, everything about it. But over time, I got used to it. Now, I actually like it.

Taste changes over time. Maybe it’s age. Maybe it’s experience. Things you once avoided start to make sense—and sometimes become something you enjoy.

I think people should not reject something just because they don’t like it at first. At least give it a try. You might discover something you didn’t expect.
