When Was the Last Time You Doubted Yourself?
When was the last time you truly thought you might be wrong?
Not when you’ve criticized someone else or when you pointed out someone else’s flaws, but when you quietly questioned your own thinking.
In today’s world, so many people are too busy judging others.
Social media is full of voices declaring who’s right and who’s wrong. Criticizing others is easy, and it feels good. It makes us feel correct, intelligent, and somehow superior. But real growth doesn’t come from criticizing others; it begins with questioning ourselves.
What we believe to be the truth is often nothing more than our own experience.
What we call logic may simply be our personal bias. And what we dismiss as wrong may simply reflect a different way of seeing the world.
After years of working as a business owner and entrepreneur, I’ve come to a humbling realization: the more experience I gain, the more I understand that I’m not always right.
In business, decisions that once felt unquestionably right can later reveal blind spots when viewed from another perspective. A customer’s perspective, an employee’s, a partner’s, or even a competitor’s.
The hardest part isn't admitting a mistake—it’s admitting that the other person’s way of thinking also made sense.
Intellectually, I understand this, but to be honest, I’m still learning how to practice it fully. True leadership isn't about proving how right you are; it’s about having the strength to admit you might be wrong. Before I try to win an argument, I now try to ask myself:
- Did I truly try to see the world through their eyes?
- Did I try to understand before trying to win the argument?
If everyone could adopt this mindset, our debates would be deeper, our decisions would be wiser, and our society would be far less divided. Perhaps the true mark of intelligence isn't how well we can criticize others, but how honestly we can question ourselves.
