An Open Invitation to Talk

People are often offended by other points of view.
But there is something we all need to remember:

 

Your view is also someone else’s “other point of view.”

 

No one owns the truth. We only see it from where we stand.

 

The purpose of communication is not to persuade people to surrender to our ideas, and it is not to defeat others in argument. The purpose of communication is to exchange ideas — to understand how others see the world, and to let them see how we see it.

 

When you try too hard to pull someone toward your position, they instinctively move away. This is true in politics, in business, and in life. Pressure creates resistance. Respect creates curiosity.

 

If you truly believe in your ideas, you do not need to force them on anyone. Let them stand. If someone understands them, they will come to you. If they do not, that is okay too. You also have the option to walk toward them and try to understand their position. That is how bridges are built.

 

What should never be done is denying another person’s opinion through insult, intimidation, or ridicule. The moment a conversation turns into an attack, it stops being communication.

 

This blog is not a place for shouting matches.
It is a place for thinking, for exchanging perspectives, and for learning from each other.
