If you’ve noticed that premium credit card annual fees are rising every year, you’re not alone. My own premium card, which used to cost $595, is jumping to $895 next cycle. That $300 increase made me seriously consider canceling it. And I’m far from the only one.

 

So why are banks raising fees so aggressively?

 

The biggest reason is the cost of benefits. Premium cards now bundle airport lounge access, hotel perks, travel credits, food delivery benefits, and lifestyle rewards. These perks cost banks real money, and higher fees help cover those expenses. On top of that, card issuers compete fiercely for high-spending customers, so they continue adding more benefits—even if the annual fee has to rise to support them.

 

Another factor is behavior: many customers are still willing to pay the higher price as long as the perks feel valuable. For banks, annual fees are stable revenue, especially when other income like interest or transaction fees fluctuates.

 

But as fees climb from $595 to $895, even loyal customers like me start asking a simple question: Is it still worth it?
