The $7,000 federal credit for EVs is ending at the end of this month. Recently, I saw an ad from a Future Sound Ford dealer offering a $299/month lease with zero down on a Ford Lightning EV truck. That sounded like a great deal, so I called the dealership. The person I spoke with confirmed they had it, and I set up an appointment for 11 o’clock today.
When I got there, the person I had the appointment with never showed up. Instead, another salesperson came over and offered to show me the truck. I asked him directly, “Do you actually have the $299 zero-down deal I’m talking about?” He said they could “work it out.”
To make a long story short, after about an hour of going back and forth, what they finally offered was $299 per month—but only with $7,500 down.
I wasn’t mad. I only wanted the truck if it was truly $299/month with zero down. Of course, I was willing to pay tax and licensing fees, but that’s different. They should have just told me upfront that the deal didn’t exist.
I could have been a “difficult” customer, but honestly, I don’t really care. If the deal wasn’t real, then I was never that interested in the first place.
