Today I had my seventh-month post–kidney-transplant checkup at Virginia Mason in Seattle. Over the past six months my transplanted kidney has been doing well, and today's visit confirmed that I'm doing OK overall. There are a few things my care team wants to address: my calcium level is a little high and needs adjustment, and a few other medications or doses will be fine-tuned.
My weight has been stable, which is good, but I was reminded that I need to exercise more and drink more water. The team made it clear that coffee and tea don’t count toward hydration, so I really need to focus on plain water intake.
I have five more monthly checkups before I’ll be discharged completely from the Virginia Mason transplant program. At that point I’ll need to find a new primary care doctor, since my current PCP does not take Medicare. Grateful for the care I’ve received so far and motivated to follow through on the small lifestyle changes that will help keep things on track.
