Camera vs Smartphone

Camera vs Smartphone

I haven’t used my Canon DSLR in years because smartphones are now good enough for most photography. Still, for special cases like sports or nightscapes, I rely on the DSLR’s burst speed and high ISO.

When I looked at compact cameras from Fujifilm, Canon, and Nikon, I was surprised they cost as much as high-end smartphones. The business model behind these high-priced cameras isn’t about mass adoption anymore. Instead, manufacturers focus on niches—professionals and enthusiasts who need features phones can’t match.

Like luxury watches, these cameras sell on performance, prestige, and ecosystems (lenses, accessories, software). Their aim is to own the high-end market, not compete with smartphones head-on.

But I still question: how much longer can this high-end camera market really survive?
